Britton, Tony (HHC Maintenance / Delta Company 5/16 Inf Maintenance / HQ93D M88 TC) - Tony returned back to Fort Riley, re-enlisted, and then took the early out. He took 2 months off and then started driving semi for then 13 years. Tony has currently settled down in Colona, Illinois with his wife and a great government job at the Rock Island Arsenal. Burns, Robert (CO of Charlie Company & Later HHC) - LTC Robert A. Burns is currently commanding the 3rd Squadron, 2d Armored Cavalry Regiment at Ft. Polk, LA. He commanded Company C, 2-34 Armor and deployed his Company to Saudi Arabia for Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He took command of HHC, 2-34 Armor in Iraq after hostilities ceased, and redeployed to Ft Riley in May 1991. LTC Burns was reassigned to the Center for Army Lessons Learned, Ft Leavenworth in 1993. He deployed to Macedonia in July 1993, and to Haiti in 1995. He attended the Command and General Staff College and the School of Advanced Military Studies Program, and was assigned to G3 Plans, 1st Cavalry Division. He was assigned as the S3 of 2-12 Cavalry in June 1998 and deployed to Camp Demi, Bosnia in March 1999. Upon redeployment to Ft Hood, he was assigned as the executive officer of 2-12 Cavalry. He was reassigned to U.S. Joint Forces Command in June 2000. His awards include the Silver Star, the Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, Army Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal with oak leaf cluster , the NATO Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, and the Kuwaiti Liberation Medal. Case, Scott (HHC Medical Platoon / Charlie Company) - Scott Case (PFC/SPC) Medical Platoon (Storm) C 14, 1st Platoon, C Company ('91-'93) Decatur, Alabama. Scott stated that his life has been rather boring since he has gone into the finance field. He now has two little boys (6 months and 2 years) to keep him busy, and that he works with the Scientific Research Corporation as a Contract Administrator. They do various contracts for the DoD and were involved heavily in this last round in Iraq. They had guys with the 1st MEF on the ground helping them with their new C3I systems. Delaney, Keith (HHC - Scout Platoon) - Keith Delaney currently lives in Louisville KY and is working as a portfolio manager for a small investment company. He was discharged from the Army as soon as we got back from Desert Storm and finished college in Boston at Northeastern University. He spent some time at Fidelity Investments in Boston and then worked five years on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. He met a fabulous woman in NYC and moved to KY 12 days prior to 9/11. Fletcher, Bill (S-3) - Bill was originally in Bravo Company as an E-5 SGT and was both a gunner and then a tank commander. He was then promoted to E-6 was a platoon sergeant, went to ANCOC, was selected for E-7 in 1989. Bill went up to S-3 right before the war. LTC Fontenot pinned on his stripes on April Fools Day in Iraq. He now lives in Sioux City Iowa. His two kids are now 18 and 19. His daughter graduated last year from high school and his son Mike graduates in May. Mike joined the national guard a couple weeks after the Sept 11th attack. Gass, Mike (HHC) - Mike Gass was assigned to HHC 2/34 Armor and arrived on the "Hill" on May of 1990. He was assigned to the Mortar Platoon headed by Master Sergeant Thurmond. He left as a Corporal and with an honorable discharge back to his hometown, Des Moines, Iowa, in November 1995. Mike worked for a small office supply company until April 1997 when he was hired by the State of Iowa as a Correctional Officer at the Iowa Correctional Institution for Women and have been working there since. Keough, Robert (HHC - Medical Platoon) - CPL Robert Keough served in HHC 2/34 Armor 1990-1992. He was a tanker assigned to the HHC medic platoon. Robert transferred from 10th Cavalry, Ft. Knox just before the battalion deployed to Saudi Arabia with three other tankers including SPC Tolbert and PFC Lewis, but there were no crew slots open in the line companies. So they served with the medics as combat replacements. Robert drove their PCs and kept them running. This freed up medic personnel to focus on line support. He was SGT Real's 'tanker buddy' as the four of us came to be known. Robert went back to college after he left the Army. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and later earned an MBA. Medine, Scott (Charlie Company) - After leaving active duty on February 18, 1992, Scott went into the Louisiana National Guard until 1998 (B1/153 Inf) where he attained the rank of SFC. Scott holds a BA in History and an MA in Archeology both from Louisiana State University. He has worked as a police officer and a private investigator, and he is now a teacher and football coach. Scott has been teaching since 1997 in both Louisiana and Georgia where he now reside in Athens where his wife, Carolyn, is a Professor of Religious Studies at the University of Georgia. Nepute, Jim (CO of Delta Company) - LTC Jim Nepute commanded D/2-34 during the war. He taught ROTC at University of Louisville, then got caught in the Clinton drawdown of the early 90's. LTC Nepute took a job at FT Knox working as a contractor on the Staff Group Trainer project for about 18 months, then came back on active duty through the AGR program. He changed his branch to Engineer (reluctantly) and had assignments in Minneapolis, Korea, and Salt Lake City. LTC Nepute also earned a masters in Management from Troy State University, and worked extensively with the Army Communities of Excellence program and the implementation of lean six sigma. LTC Nepute retired in December 2007 and taught ROTC for one semester as a contractor. He now back on active duty again as a retiree recall and is assigned to the Engineer section of HQ US Central Command in Tampa, FL where he is involved in planning and oversight of infrastructure projects throughout the CENTCOM area of responsibility. Nickerson, Philip A. Jr. (Bravo Company) - He was a member of B Co. 2/34 Armor during Desert Storm. Philip died in 1998 from what is believed to have been illness caused by Gulf War Syndrome. Noriega, Christian (Charlie Company) - Christian served with Charlie Company 2/34 Armor out of Ft. Riley, KS from November of 1990 to November of 1992. He left active duty and join the reserves in 1992. He served in a infantry unit as a medic until May of 1994. Then Christian decided that he wanted to go back on active duty. He enlisted for 3 years as a tanker and was stationed in Friedberg, Germany. Christian was promoted to the rank of E-5. He had a daughter from a previous marriage while in Germany. Christian was discharged from active duty in May of 1997. He was hired by the Broward Sheriff's Office as a Correction Officer in August of 1997 and still works there. After getting out the military and attended Kansas State University and graduated with a B.S. in Psychology. He moved to Topeka Kansas in 1997 and still resides there. He is currently employed as an Addiction therapist for the VA hospital in Topeka. He has three children and has been married for 13 years. Josh was known as one of the fastest runners in the Battalion during his time in the army. Thompson, Arthur (B CO 2nd Platoon Leader 1987-1988, HHC Mortar PLT LDR, 1988-1990, HHC XO 1990-1991) - After Desert Storm Art transferred to the Ordnance Corps where he attended the advanced course and EOD School. He commanded the 63rd EOD Company at Ft. Leonard Wood MO from 1992 to 1994. After command he left the Army and worked as a financial consultant for 5 years then worked as a contractor with the Battelle Corp for 5 more years. Art now currently employed as a GS at Ft. Leonard Wood MO within the TRADOC IED ICDT where he utilizes his EOD skills to develop and critic new peaces of equipment for the Army in its counter IED efforts in both OIF and OEF. Thomson, Scott (Scout Platoon, HHC) - Scott was a member of the Scout Platoon during Desert Storm. He went back to college and got his degree in restaurant management from the University of Alabama after he left the army. Scott currently lives in Birmingham, AL. Winters, Christopher (HHC Tank Section) - Christopher Winters left active duty on 2 May 1992 and moved to Tacoma Washington where he and his wife Michele currently reside. He took a part time job to pay the bills for only a month while applying with the Federal Government for employment and eventually enrolled into a construction trades career at the local community college. After graduating as a Journeyman he went on to lead a large Painting (commercial/Industrial) company in the city of Seattle. He used his leadership skills that he acquired in the Army to become an organizer with the union. He was elected as a Business Representative with the responsible for the Western side of Washington State, and he currently sits on the State Board of Correctional Industries and the newly formed Homeland Defense Advisory Committee for Washington State. Chris is also involved with the Disabled American Veterans, Harmony Chapter #18 in Lakewood Washington where he was the Adjutant (First Sergeant) for two terms. He is still active with the group and currently am the liaison for his union on governmental issues at the numerous military installations in Washington state. Chris was recently appointed to sit as the Helmets to Hard hats Representative for his union (www.helmetstohardhats.org) and is currently working with the Governors office to spread the word about the returning soldiers and the need to help find them jobs. Chris attended the George Meany University for Labor Studies in Silver Spring Maryland and is currently a student at the University of Washington Tacoma (Labor studies-Interdisciplinary Arts) Bachelor of Arts program..
